Meet us at the Kotoka International Airport (ACC) parking lot, international side, terminal 3 at 12pm (GMT - Ghana Time). We'll board an air conditioned coach for a scenic tour to the spectacular Gold Coast of West Africa in the Central Region. You'll learn about the history, customs, country, and people of Ghana.


Upon arrival at the Beach Resort, we will check-in, relax and adjust to the time change. Later that evening we'll enjoy a warm-hearted welcome cocktail and sample delicious traditional African foods.

We'll board our transport at 9am and travel through the historic villages of Ghana’s Central Region to one of Africa’s only surviving tropical rain forests and UNESCO National World Heritage site, Kakum National Park. The forest is home to many endangered and rare mammals such as the Diana Monkey, Bongo, Yellow-backed Duiker and elephant. You can test your wits on the 1150 ft Canopy Walk, one of only three in Africa, providing privileged forest access.

Later that evening we'll enjoy a mesmerizing live cultural performance!

We'll embark at 9:30am on a journey that leads into the bowels of the famous slave castle, one of forty commercial forts built by European traders. Relive the heart wrenching accounts of the last days of Africans captured before entering the "door of no return" bound for the Americas and the Caribbean, never to be seen again. This is an exclusive ceremonial tour NOT available to the general public, created for Africans from the diaspora. WEAR WHITE!   


Later that afternoon we'll give you the space you'll need to decompress. You can enjoy some alone time for deep reflection, a walk along the beach, and later that evening you can join the group for poolside cocktails (or mocktails) soothing music, discussion, and a Beachfront Bonfire!

We will check out at 10am, after breakfast and head to the capital city of Accra. On the way, we will visit a beautiful local village and experience a traditional ceremony complete with drumming and dancing. You'll experience the adulation of presenting gifts to the children of the village while taking photos to preserve this memorable occasion. Then we'll continue on for a late afternoon check-in to our accommodations and settled in for R&R.

Starting at 10am: We will unlock the secrets of Accra, an extraordinary 137-year old capital city. We will uncover the rich history and unique blend of colonial and modern architecture. On this sightseeing tour, we will visit the Jamestown Lighthouse, one of the most historic landmarks of our heritage; journey to the WEB Dubois Center for Pan African Culture, Independence/Black Star, and the National Museum.

*Optional Daytime Activity: Take a day trip on a short flight to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, home of the great Ashanti Empire. Explore the largest market in the region with over 10K vendors. Here is where the original kente cloth is handmade and artisans craft woodcarvings, clothing and original art.

Please read carefully.

ALL PLANS INCLUDE:

  • 9 Nights of Accommodations. Three nights in Elmina and six in Accra (This includes an extended check-out to accommodate late night flights back to the USA on Saturday, December 9th).
  • Admission to ALL Tours, Excursions, Arts, and Cultural Experiences as listed.
  • Buffet breakfast daily, one dinner, and one lunch.
  • Air-Conditioned Transportation on ALL Tours, Excursions, Arts and Cultural Experiences included.
  • "Optional Activities" are just suggestions of things to do on your own and may involve additional costs. 


RATES: 

  • First class, five Star Package: $2650 pp/dbl (add $500 for a single).
  • Payment plans are available. 
  • 50% is due by May 1st and the balance is due by September 1st.


IMPORTANT NOTES: 

  • All tours are included; however, participation is always optional. The price does not change if you don't join in. So you may as well indulge and enjoy EVERYTHING! 
  • This is a land-only package. Airfare is NOT included. 
  • Book your roundtrip flight early for air fares from $1100 - $1400. We will be happy to track prices and email you low-fare alerts.  
  • We STRONGLY recommend you fly non-stop direct to avoid hastles from missed connections, customs and lost luggage. 
  • Delta flies direct from New York, JFK and United Air flies direct from Washington-Dulles (IAD). Both flights are just under 10 hours. 
  • Flight arrangements should be made to arrive the day before the tour begins to avoid unforeseen delays. If missed, you will be responsible for catching up to the group on your own.   
  • Hotel accommodations for early arrival or extended days are NOT included. Suggestion will be provided in the ABTF Travel Guide.


PREPARE FOR TRAVEL:

Delegates are responsible for adhering to the following prior to traveling with us:

  • Travel Vaccinations: Covid and Yellow Fever are REQUIRED.
  • Anti-malarial meds are strongly recommended but not required.
  • Covid Test upon arrival or departure from Ghana is NO longer required with proof of vaccination.
  • United States Passport (the expiration date must be MORE than 6 months from the date of your departure).
  • Ghana Entry TOURIST Visa. You must apply for a TOURIST VISA sixty (60) days prior to your departure date. We offer a webinar and provide you with assistance ($60: single entry, good for 90 days; $100: multi-entry, good for 2 years).
  • You will need a physical and medical clearance for travel with our group.
  • Must be physically able to lift 50 lbs (ie, your luggage), walk up/down stairs, and walk at least one mile without stopping, needing a cane or assistance. (Sorry, no exceptions.)
  • TRAVEL INSURANCE that includes emergency medical evacuation coverage as soon as you book your trip. We strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance at the time of booking.
  • SORRY, NO EXCEPTIONS!


SOLO TRAVELERS:

If you need a roommate, go ahead and reserve your space. You will have until September 1st to find a roommate, get matched with one, or upgrade to single occupancy.  


PAYMENT/REFUND POLICY:

  • A non-refundable $100 deposit will hold your space and be credited towards the total due. Deposits will be accepted based on space availability.
  • Payment plans are available.
  • Late/missed payments will result in immediate cancelation.  Your reservation will given to the next person on the waitlist. 
  • We will email an invoice reflecting the dates and balances due upon receipt of your reservation deposit or request.
  • SORRY, THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS OR EXTENSIONS ON PAYMENT DUE DATES.
  • An administrative fee of up to 50% of the total cost of the trip will be charged for refund requests before Sept 1st.
  • Refund requests will NOT be honored on or after Sept. 1st.
  • Cancelations, for any reason, should be filed as a claim with your travel insurance for any payments not deemed refundable. 

 Know Before You Go: 

  • Facilities are not wheelchair accessible. 
  • High-heeled shoes are not recommended on tours.
  • This trip is not for travelers with back problems or those unable to walk up and down stairs.
  • Travelers age 12 and up are welcome.
  • Tour guides will social distance and masks may be required for some tours.
  • Proof of Travel Insurance with "EMERGENCY MEDICAL EVACUATION" is mandatory to join the group. 
  • You are responsible for knowing  observing all laws and ordinances. Violators will be immediately expelled from the group.

As a part of this group, you agree to itinerary modifications and substitutions if we receive an official invitation as an arts delegation to attend a special event. You also understand that changes can occur due to circumstances beyond our control. We will always defer to ABTF's high standard of satisfaction and value. This is our number one priority.

Please Note: This travel group experience is hosted by ABTF Travels and is a private pilgrimage and healing journey for artists and those who have experienced the violence of living while Black in America. It is therefore considered a sacred space reserved for those who can best identify with the trauma of our violent ancestral history.   


This journey is too important and must be protected as such due to centuries of unattended wounds and oppression. Thank you kindly for your sensitivity and understanding as we strive to foster a safe space.
